Most fuel-efficient automatic cars for Lagos traffic under ₦8 million
Fuel economy in Lagos is different from brochure fuel economy. A car that looks efficient on paper can drink fuel badly if it spends two hours crawling from Lekki to VI, Ikeja to Maryland, or Ajah to CMS.
If your budget is under ₦8 million and you want an automatic car that is manageable in traffic, focus on engine size, weight, maintenance history, and parts availability.
Cars I would consider:
1. Toyota Corolla
2. Toyota Yaris
3. Honda Civic
4. Honda Fit
5. Hyundai Accent
6. Kia Rio
Toyota Corolla is usually the safest answer because it balances fuel economy, reliability and resale. Toyota Yaris is even cheaper to fuel, but it is smaller and may feel less comfortable on long trips.
Honda Civic can be efficient and enjoyable, but inspect the transmission and suspension carefully. Honda Fit is practical and very fuel-friendly, but avoid abused units and confirm a mechanic near you understands it.
Be careful with large V6 sedans if your main concern is fuel. Toyota Camry, Avalon and Lexus ES are comfortable, but they are not the best choice for someone calculating every litre.
Hybrid cars can save fuel, but only buy one after checking hybrid battery health and confirming who will maintain it.
Before buying, test drive in real traffic if possible. Watch the temperature gauge, AC performance, gearbox shifting and idle stability. Bad maintenance can make even a fuel-efficient car consume like an SUV.
